To begin the process, I meet individually with the parents to understand their history and concerns. The bulk of the work is then done with the child to ensure the child's readiness to meet with the estranged parent.
When it seems the child is emotionally ready, I provide family therapy for the child and estranged parent together. The custodial parent may or may not be involved. Each family situation is unique, and my focus is always on the best interest of the child.
